There was a segment on FOX News yesterday afternoon reporting on this technique. I believe it was reported as currently being used by the Los Angeles County SO. I didn't catch the full broadcast, is this the same as VSA with another name? Reported as being "95%" successful in trials.

END.....

If I've got this correct, LVSA "corrected" the problems CVSA had, which is interesting given they were about 100% accurate and had no problems. It's all the same scam - just in different packages.

LVA was researched along with CVSA in the most recent study done at the Univ. of Florida. They really hammered both of them. They used actual voice responses from military personnel undergoing some very stress packed SERE training in which they were captured and were undergoing interrogation. both the LVSA and the CVSA faired about the same...less than a coin flip.

Comments from the study:
"While being recorded on video-camera, the SERE subjects wore a Vivometrics “Life Shirt” that continuously recorded common physiological correlates of stress; included are metrics such as heart rate, breathing and blood pressure. In this case, the SERE subjects exhibited heart rates typically varying between 140 and 170 BPM, with 95 being the lowest value recorded. In contrast, their base heart rates were relatively low when they were at rest; they ranged between 48 and 52 BPM. Thus, it appeared reasonable to infer that the threat of punishment associated with this procedure resulted in a substantial elevation of stress levels during the interrogation."

Summary of Findings: The findings generated by this study led to the conclusion that neither the CVSA nor the LVA showed any sensitivity to the presence of deception or stress. Several analyses of subsets of the data were undertaken to explore any possibility that either system could perform under more controlled conditions, but no sensitivity was observed in any of these analyses (see the Technical Results section). These results are congruent with those observed in past surveys of research on voice stress analysis.

You can read thh study on the website I maintain at

I heard the Fox News report (on XM radio) and it was pure fluff obviously a publicity piece submitted by the manufacturer.
